Camberwell Under 11’s on track for a fight back

Coming off the back of some big losses, the Camberwell U11 team were met with glorious sunshine on what was meant to be a stormy morning at Dorothy Laver. Taking this as an omen, we saw Matt Lamb take the first goal for Camberwell. There was some impressive defence by our new young recruit Bailey Nicholls, allowing the ball to make its way into the midfield and see another goal scored by Matt Lamb.

Blitz Streak Broken

Camberwell Blitz  4 lost to Caulfield  11

Playing the third-placed Caulfield the Blitz were always going to be in for a tough day.  The opening ten minutes was an arm wrestle with neither side scoring as the ball reversed up and down the field.  Frank McKenna made two great saves in goal and Liam Campbell broke up a number of Caulfield thrusts with strong body groundballs and determined running.  Unfortunately the Blitz could not sustain the pressure and gave up three goals to finish the quarter 0-3.

The Under 13 Blitz team outplayed Footscray in muddy conditions to notch its fourth successive win.

Lachie Falconer-Boag showed how much his attacking skills have developed with a bag of 7 goals combined with strong face-off play and midfield running.  He was well supported by Finn Whelen who clocked up hundreds of metres with sustained midfield running and multiple groundballs.

Support Camberwell players at the Nationals

The National Championships are being held this week at the Footscray Hockey Center. Camberwell Lacrosse Club is represented by state league players Joel Easson (#2) and Ben Greenwood (#5).

Joel is part of the senior VIC state team and was named game MVP last night in the win against WA.

Ben is part of the Australian U19 squad, who were also off to a good start defeating NZ 14-10. This is the last training camp on Aussie shores for the team, which will be travelling to Canada to compete in the 2016 FIL Under 19 World Lacross Championships, in a couple of weeks.

Joel Easson wins game MVP honours at the Nationals

The VIC state team, trying to avoid a 5 year national title drought (which would be the longest in its history), is off to a great start, defeating regining champions WA 12-11 in OT last night. Joel Easson was named game MVP. What a great debut to his state representative career.

With new player Tom Sharp lining up the Blitz finally had a bench, albeit of only one as Colby Gale missed with injury and Miles Cowton is still ill.

A piece of history - The Saxby Training Light

More than sixty years ago a small switch box and light was erected on a post between the edge of the road and the Francis Crescent playing field at the Saxby Road end where the club trained and often played matches.  It was put there by the club to control a single low-powered light used for mid-week training by the Camberwell-Glen Iris teams. Strangely it is still there - maybe it has been given heritage listing !
