Victorian Senior Men's voted Team of the Year

The year 2011 for Lacrosse Victoria ended with a bang as the Men’s Senior Lacrosse Team was named Team of the Year at the annual Victorian Sports Awards held at the Crown Entertainment Complex on November 28, 2011.

The recognition came after the team’s triumphant feat in the Australian National Championships last July against South Australia with a 10-8 win in the final. The seniors also managed to keep the Garland McHarg Cup in their backyard for five consecutive years, surpassing West Australia’s record of a four-peat victory.

Present during the awards night were coaches Murray Keen and Glen Meredith, and manager Graham Rodrigues. The 19-man team included 3 players from our club: Alistair Gloutnay, Oliver Casey, and Joel Easson.

The Victorian Sport Awards also recognised the outstanding achievements of other Victorian athletes, administrators, coaches, and officials in 16 different categories like Outstanding Contribution to Sport Award and Governor’s Award - Victorian Sportsperson of the Year. Winners were polled following nominations by representatives of more than 300  organisations from the sport, recreation, and health industries.
